We use green onions in SO many recipes, so we buy them all the time from the grocery store. Problem is, before we can use them all up, they start shriveling and die. Sad face.
I’ve tried the “trick” of wrapping a wet paper towel around them in the fridge, but that never worked. Still dead. So when I read that just by putting them in water near light, they would regenerate and grow more onions, I though “yeah sure”. But IT WORKS! You can REGROW your green onions in a mason jar!
Check out my before (they aren’t very indicative of how icky they were) and the what they look like now! Before the roots were tiny and now they are getting so long. And the onions themselves have doubled in size and gotten perfectly healthy. I literally did nothing but dump them in this jar and keep water in it. Viola. Best thing is, now we don’t have to spend nearly as much money on green onions as we had been! They just keep growing as I cut.
